The Christie NHS Foundation Trust has signed a 15+ year contract with SYNLAB, the leading provider of medical diagnostic services and specialty testing in Europe, for the delivery of a high quality, responsive pathology service for The Christie and patients across Greater Manchester.
The contract commences on 1 June 2025 and will be delivered by the existing joint venture partnership between the Trust and SYNLAB, known as The Christie Pathology Partnership (CPP). CPP has served The Christie, one of Europe’s largest single site cancer centres, since 2014 and now processes more than 1.2 million tests annually.
This new contract was awarded in recognition of SYNLAB’s focus on research and innovation, a commitment to the Christie’s long-term strategic priorities, and plans to deliver a future-proof service.
The new service will see a new multi-million pound investment in the development of two state-of-the-art laboratories to provide increased capacity and resilience, as well as additional funding and resource for research and development. This investment includes a new Innovation Accelerator Fund to advance research, innovation and development initiatives.
We are very pleased to extend our joint venture partnership with SYNLAB to continue our excellent pathology service for Christie and other Greater Manchester patients. With SYNLAB’s focus on research and innovation, the new service which will benefit from further investment, aligns with The Christie’s strategic priorities.
Roger Spencer, Chief Executive at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
SYNLAB and The Christie have established an incredible relationship over the past 11 years and I know the CPP team are as delighted as I am that this partnership will continue to support The Christie in providing first class patient care.
Mark Dollar, CEO of SYNLAB UK & Ireland
We have exciting plans for two new digital-first laboratories designed specifically to optimise workflow, provide better workspaces and allow for future growth. But possibly even more important than these facilities is the launch of an innovation fund for staff, as befitting Europe’s largest single site cancer centre. We can’t wait to start this next chapter on June 1.
